Years ago, when I really believed in higher education, I requested Student Loan from the Hungarian Government. Of course the college I started, I did not finish, but the loan which I spent on mostly tuition fees, was haunting me. 

I was tackling with it year-by-year, sometimes I forgot to pay it in time, so there were additional late payment charges, etc, and the whole amount did not seem to be decreased but the opposite. 

Since we had some savings, we always decided to pay it back in a lump sum, however never really got there to do it. But finally now I decided to get rid of it, so I called up the bank, asking them how much I owe. They told me the final number, then when I said I want to pay it back in a single money transfer, the lady asked: "May I ask why do you want to pay it back in a single payment?"

I did not want to believe my ears. "What?" - Then the lady was asking me if I applied for another loan to pay this back, or I was doing it from my own savings. When I told her I will pay it from my savings, (I am not an idiot to get another loan), she did not continue, but I wonder why she asked at all. 

I know banks need clients, who are in debts, but come on ... when a client approaches you, because they want to pay everything back, why can not you just let it?

In a couple days, I will cut all the financial strings, I am being tied to Hungary, and finally I can get myself fully independent.
