Weekend
On Saturday we decided to go to Liverpool to visit the famous Formby Beach. We were going there with two of the hungarian girls living in our block, and their mother from Hungary who was visiting them over the weekend. Of course in the morning they have almost missed the bus, so we bought them tickets for the next one, and was prepared to leave it at the cashier, because our tickets were issued for the "normal" time as we agreed.
Finally in the last seconds they have arrived, and we had a nice ride to Liverpool city centre on the same bus :-) (50 minutes journey)
We knew we didn't have much time (as we had to buy the tickets for the journey back also), therefore I went into a travel information office further down the road, to ask how to go to Formby. (Formby is a residental area outside of Liverpool, however it belongs to the city, at least their postcode is :-))).
We got a daily ticket which was good for all buses in Liverpool (4,3GBP), then took the appropriate bus to Forby, which was another 45 minutes journey.
Arriving to the city we asked some people, how far was the beach from the bus stop, but everybody said around 15 minutes walk. So we were happy that it will be close. Then unfortunately we had to realise the 15 minutes walk was 1 hour walk to the beach, through a kinda boring city, there were nothing to look just same houses everywhere. So soon, we reached a pine forrest, which was the first sign, we were on the right place (after around 2 and a half hour travel). We went through this pine forest, and got to a sandy place, enormous dunes around where you could see. I was wearing Converse shoes, which were filled up with sand in about a second, thanks for the two holes at their sides. (Good design, so suffer for it :-))
A couple minutes walk amongs the dunes, and we could finally lay our eyes on the sea. There was low-tide when we got there, so the sea was only in the distance, but we were desperate to see it from closer.
So tried to go across the wide shore, which was kinda mudy because of the sea, and at some places we started to sink rapidly. My shoes and my trousers were mudy as I tried to find the way between the paddles remained after high tide and the shifting sand and mud. But at the end, after a couple minutes struggle, we could get down to the sea, and I could taste the water like I do it every time. (I am telling you, it was salty :-))
After taking a lot of pictures, we went back to the sand dunes, and had something to eat, then rest. When the "girls" were reading, sunbathing, I turned my iPOD on and left for a walk on the beach. It was incredible to walk on this huge empty space, I felt myself totally free, did not think about work, or anything stressful. I was walking along the beach for a while then returned to the girls, who decided to go home, so we packed our stuff.
The way back was even longer as we were already tired as hell, and it was quite disappointing to know that we had 1 hour walking just to get back to the bus station. It was a long long long walk, and everybody was very exhausted at the end. On the bus back to Liverpool, the conversation volume turned down, and on the other bus back to Manchester, everybody was sleeping the whole way :-)
It was a great day, a nice beach, however I have to say, Formby can not be compaired to the wonderful coast line of Wales.
