On Sunday we organized a trip to Llandudno, where the 4th Lighthouse was waiting for us to discover. We went with a couple friends this time and by car. The way to there was quick and easy, in about 1,5 hour. Arriving to the town Llandudno, I have asked direction from a taxi driver and he helped us out by directing to the Marine Drive.
"The Marine Drive is a four mile scenic drive round the base of the Great Orme headland, from Llandudno's North Shore to Llandudno's West Shore and it has much to interest the traveller. It is a toll road, but the charge is only £2.50 per car and that includes parking on the Orme, including at the summit" - http://www.greatorme.org.uk/marinedrive.html
The view was amazingly beautiful. We stopped a couple times, and where we were able, we climbed down the rocks in order to see the water. It was quite scary to walk/climb around, as the terrain was aslope, the rocks were slippery sometimes by the water running down the cliffs, and we had to be extra careful not to run around. One wrong step could have lead to a fall off the cliffs, so sometimes I got chickened out :-).
There was one part of this mountain, where I found a huge hole in the rocks, like a vertical cave, a tube. The water coming down the hill must have carved it out in the last couple hundread years. It was deep, (can not really say: 20-25m deep?), and if you listened closely, you could hear a deep voice as the waves of the sea entered at the bottom and smashed to the rocks. It was quite scary to climb myself so close, but totally worthed it. One of the girl from our team was using it as an Ashtray :-).
We decided to climb down the huge rocks not far from us and get to the shore. During our short journey we made many photos. I could not say it was easy, as we had to climb down an old rusty ladder at the end, but finally we got to the stone-covered shore. Mrs. Smith, walked in the sea until her knees, and informed us it was incredible cold. Everybody sat down for a second, while I was keep climbing up on huge rocks further down the shore. I felt myself like a child on a trip. I haven't felt this for a long time. Total freedom.
We stayed there for a while, then got back the same way we came (it was probably even harder), to continue our journey on the Marine Drive. The view was marvelous, the sun was shining, only some mist at the distance disturbed and faded the line of the horizon.
Soon we got to the lighthouse, which operates as a hotel now. The owner was a family man, who lived there with his wife and his son. He was very kind and showed everything to us, after a short but very beautiful piano concert by his 6 year old son we were even allowed to go to the hotel rooms, which usually he does not show to visitors.
The lighthouse was 400ft height, which is around 120 meters. He told us in the morning he saw some dolphins but they were gone by the time we got there. We looked around, made many pictures of the ligthouse hotel, and the area, then we continued our journey up the hill.
At the top, there was a caffe, where we had some coffes, and had some rest. We didn't really realize how tired we became after so much climbing.
We stayed there about 30 minutes then drove along the Marine Drive further down. We stopped a couple times more to take pictures, saw some sheeps also (which were not very friendly) Then found a very nice area, where we could sit at the edge of the cliffs, and hang our feet over the 120m height. Some of us were sunbathing, I was taking photos, then was just sitting on a rock, and looking in the distance. That was amazing feeling. This country is beautiful, and I was glad to be there.
We were there for about an hour, or maybe more, I could not decide. The view was one of the best I have ever seen. We saw some fishing boats, sailing boats, speedboats, canoes, birds, sheeps (obviously not in the water but on the cliffs down below us). We got sunburned also, as having no suncream at all. (Who expected this weather? :-))
Then got into the car and drove along the road again. We met some fellow tourists people and gave them some sweets we had with us (of course everybody took some :-))), and also saw the lighthouse owner and his family was passing by in their car. They waived to us and smiled. The Marine Drive ended, and we got back to Llandudno, where we accidently met with another group of Hungarians from Manchester. We knew they were coming to the same time, but it was an accident, and not an organized meet-up. After a couple minutes chat we said goodbye to them, and went to the Llandudno pier, where we got ourselves payed for a jet-boat ride on the sea. It was just crazy. The wind was strong, the boat was very fast, everybody was screaming, the boat was thrown in the air by the waves sometimes. It was about 6-7 minutes, for 3,5£ each. Bargain. :-)
After the ride we went on the pier, and took many pictures. Also bought a plastic spider for our cat, as we did exactly the same in Prague :-). The Pier was nice, however the Brighton pier is much bigger and more beautiful.
At this point we became so hungry, so after about 20 minutes search for a good restaurant, had our dinner, and just when we finished, rain started to pour. We got back to the car, I took some pictures of the pier in rain and we left Llandudno. It was not raining in Manchester, so our timing was ideal for this trip.
Everybody was so tired, that we only chatted for couple minutes with the other mates in the block, and Mrs. SMith and I went back to our flat.
It was a perfect day. Nothing was missing out.
