306th - Bits and pieces

2010.01.27. 10:26 ZmanUK

It has been a while since I wrote again, so I try to get you updated with the latest.

  • I had a successful assessment-interview on the previous Saturday (not at this last Saturday) for the Police (right after my patrol with them). There was a written and verbal exercise, which was not too hard, my only concern was my English, but they seemed liked it. So anyway, the following Monday I was notified I was successful so they have managed another interviewing process stage for me at the local Police Station on Friday.
  • I went to the station in my lunchbreak on Friday, and was interviewed by a Regular Sergeant and a Special Sergeant, and there was another guy who was only observing the interview. I did very well, I felt I did, so they were quite happy. (Also they appreciated my Russian knowledge, which is an advantage) Anyway they told me after the interview I got accepted. So with this the interviewing process had been finished, but there are still many phases I can fail. The next will be my fingerprints taken, then medical and security check. (this will go smooth I guess) After this, they will measure me for the uniform, then I will have to take an oath (Yes, this is THAT official). When this is done in the beginning of April, I can start the 5 weeks training. (The only downside of it, that I am not sure if I will be able to manage to show up on all dates, because of my job, and unfortunately attendance is a must for all the dates as there are many things to learn) We'll see.
  • We spent the weekend for driving around and inspecting cars to buy, drove to London, to see a Punto (the conception is to buy a car for max 2K, so Mrs. Smith could use it as a learner car, and she can give some dents to it, then later on we'll buy a "proper" one) In London, we saw a Punto (2003 model), which seemed great in the ad, but not in real life. The owner was a black guy, and unfortunately he was quite dumb. First he kept on calling me MIKE, even tho I introduced myself properly, and my name does not sound even a bit like MIKE. The complete service history was only until 2008. He tried to explain, that the normal cooling-heating system, which every car has, is an air conditioning system (LoL), tried to tell us, that under the tyre repairing kit, there IS a SPARE TYRE :) (Another LOL), and on a test drive, when we asked him about the metallic squeeking noise which was loud as hell, he DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING. At the end, we left him there, because it was just a waste of time, and money for us, to drive 300km to inspect a piece of shit.
  • On Sunday, I took some pictures of my car, and placed an ad on the internet for sale in Hungary. My hearts break, that I have to sell our lovely car, but don't wanna struggle with it anymore. I rather by an English registered one. (then I spent the rest of the day playing Xbox with my friend while Mrs. Smith was working)
  • On Monday, I went up near North-Wales, to West-Midlands, Snowdonia seemed to be very close to us. We left Ipswich at 5:30am, got to Oswestry at 10:45, got access by 11:10, started working, removed all the kits by 13:00, then we went to the hotel.
  • In the hotel we had a lovely lunch, then being so tired I went to my room for a nap. Woke up at 18:00 went down the hotel's swimming pool, and dipped myself into the jacuzzi. I spent two hours with the swim-jacuzzi-sauna combo, then off to dinner.
  • Yesterday went to BT again by 10, by that time, the logistic guy was already there finishing packing, so we hit the road around 11:00
  • On the way back, in Essex, we visited a car dealer, but he had dodgy cars so I decided not to be involved.

We are planning to go back to Hungary in a week, leave the car home, and come back by plane. I hope the weather will be a bit better by that time.

Right now I should do my expense report :), and not updating my blog :-)

BTW, the most important news, I resigned officially, and starting the new job on the 22nd of February. (I will have to stay in a hotel for a week up in Leicester for my induction week). We'll see how it goes, but at least it is guaranteed, we stay in Ipswich.
