276th - Friday the 13th in Israel

2009.11.17. 17:31 ZmanUK

What could I have wished for the last day in Tel-Aviv, than for nice weather, beach, swimming, relaxing etc?

Then I woke up for 20 degrees and rain outside. So did not have the chance even to get myself into the waves unfortunately. Had my breakfast in the hotel, then when the rain stopped, went for a short walk, and took some pictures.

At noon, I checked out the room, paid, then got into a cab to the airport.

The security is really something in Tel-Aviv. Just in brief notes:

  • Arriving by cab, you are being stopped for security check. (2 guards with machine guns)
  • Arriving to the terminal, you have to queue for about 30 minutes for the X-Ray machines
  • Your passport is being checked whilst in the queue, and you are being asked many questions about your stay in Isral. (Also triple checking your picture and "real face')
  • Putting through all of your stuff in the X-Ray machines
  • Then being escorted to the seaching desks, where you have to open up your luggage and let them to pack out everything and with a funny device check traces of explosives
  • Then you can go to the check-in desks
  • When finished checkin, you are directed to the "Security check" (what was it before then?)
  • Another queue, then another x-ray, then another look for trace of explosives. Your laptop, handluggage is being taken apart, unpacking everything. Humiliating
  • When it is finished, another passport check, and off you go, you are in the transit zone

The flight back was quick, as I spent my time watching movies. We had a turbulence over the Mediterranian sea, and also had a rough landing at Heathrow, because of the strong wind and stormy weather.

Then a taxi ride to Ipswich, which took almost 2 hours.

Exhausting week, that was for sure. But again, I met many people, saw a different part of the world, so I can consider myself lucky for that. (There are rumours that the next destination might be Togo, in West-Africa, well, let's hope it will not be :)

Enjoy the pictures
