Yesterday our Hungarian friends, (the two police students), invited us to the local police headquarters, as they told us, there is an interview with the local newspaper, and we would need to participate in it.
We had their leaving party arranged by 7pm, but the whole thing started at 5pm, at the station, so we were happy to go.
At our arrival, we met the Suffolk Detective Chief Inspector (DCI)(never knew I will meet a person from the police in such a high rank), who were organizing the whole exchange program for these Hungarian Police students, and also the news reporter, and the photographer.
We went outside to have our photograph taken in front of the building, (I was happy that fingerprint and DNA sampling were not followed :))
After the photo we went upstairs in a meeting room, and had a short interview/discussion.
The main storyline was about this exchange program, how successful it was, how much they learnt etc, and also, about the local Hungarian community (here we came into the picture) who up until this moment were under the police radar. Frankly they did not know we existed.
So we had to talk about how we met them, how we organize meetings, how we find other Hungarians (iwiw) :)
At the end of the interview, we had to stay for a short talk with the chief, which had two reasons.
1. There is one, I can not really tell, right now, however in a nutshell I was offered to participate in a police patrol one night, if I would like
2. I had been asked to act as a contact person for the police in any case of a Hungarian related issue, also for future candidate exchange program. I was happy to accept it, as it seems to be good fun.
After this meeting, we went down to the local pub, and met up with other Hungarians, at the end we were 10 of us there. We gave leaving cards and some present to the leaving guys, and had a wonderful evening with lots of laugh.
This weekend will be quite busy also, tonight I am gonna have to go and check out a bicycle for Mrs. Smith. This will be a surprise for her, I really hope she is not reading my blog regularly. :)) Also tomorrow we will have a local (work related) party at our IT park, and Sunday morning we will go for this speedboat trip.
I can not wait :)
