We celebrated our 5th year anniversary this weekend. So we decided to go to Dorset as I heard many nice things about it.
It was quite difficult to book a room only for one night, as most of the hotels and b&b-s wanted us to rent for 2 nights, but at the end, calling up over 30 different places, I could find one which was allright.
Was not cheap, £65, however the accomodation was very clean (spotless), but nothing too fancy.
Anyway, on saturday morning we left Ipswich at 8am, the sun was already shining. We expected to arrive at around 12:00, however the traffic got very bad after leaving M25, so we were facing a lots of traffic jams, accidents, etc. It was a nightmare.
First we went to a small island, Portland Island, to visit a lighthouse. As a christmas present we received from our friends (Leslie Fiesta) a puzzle, which was a picture of a beautiful lighthouse to put together. Well, we still did not finish it tho, however as this lighthouse was in Dorset, we decided to visit it.
We got there around 13:15 (traffic). What can I say? It was wonderful. The weather was perfect, really warm, very sunny, no clouds at all. It was unbelievable.
The sea was darkblue, the lighthouse was fantastic, I really fell in love with this island.
Leaving this place, we made pictures from the top of the "mountain" of the beautiful coast, the island had. Can not find the words to describe it, so you must see the pictures.
After this we went to our B&B, then headed back to Lulworth Cove. Parked the car, then went for a long and exhausting walk. We had to climb a huge hill, in order to get to Durdle Door, a fantastic arch formation of the rocks.
We made many pictures, and walked around everywhere, it was really a wonderful place to be. When the sun was about the set, we decided to go back to the hotel, and continue our trip in the morning.
The next day (sunday), we had a breakfast, then vacated our room. Went down again to Durdle Door, where we walked along the beach further down to West. Sunday was so incredible hot, that I went into the water, unfortunately only knee-deep, because I did not have my swimming shorts, and any towels. It was freezing cold.
Other people were enjoying the sea, swimming, sunbathing, etc, the whole area looked like a mediterranian place. It was really hard to imagine, that that was England too.
We spent the whole morning with walking and exploring the area. As we did not bring any suntan lotion, we got burned so badly, we look loke red lobsters now :)
We left to Ipswich at around 13:30, and could avoid the real big traffic jams, so got back home in 4 hours, without stopping. (M25 was still pretty bad tho)
It was a wonderful weekend, and hopefully we will be able to go back once, as a weekend was not even close to get enough of that marvellous place.
