Skype has announced that they will turn their head to the business users, and will implement new services for them changing their current protocol to SIP.

They would like to implement Skype to work with traditional PBX-s, to reduce outgoing calls, and also be able to make free calls over their network.

The idea does look allright, however, I think this might be a bit late. SIP is not a new technology, even if Skype wants us to believe it. They were advertising you will not need headset anymore, well, with all of the other SIP providers, equipments, etc, you do not need headset either. 

There are many other competitors in the PBX world, for example Microsoft, who has a real advantage with the OCS/LCS system (MS Communicator), and with the Interoute service, this can also replace the traditional PBX systems, and give you the flexibilty to control your own prices/traffic. 

But not necessarily with Interoute's service. The OCS/LCS is open for other Vendors too as far as I know, so that is an easy way to call someone directly from your outlook, and chat with them over the communicator.

Don't know how big is the market Skype could steal with this new strategy, but for sure they will be facing with some serious competitors.

I don't know the Ebay owned Skype how close can get to the honey pot. Let's wait and see what will happen.
