Childe of Hale
I still owe you with the happenings of last week, so read below.
On Saturday me and Mrs. Smith decided to go and visit the second lighthouse which is very close to Liverpool airport. It can be found in Hale Village. The weather was quite bad when we left our flat, it was raining and also it was QUITE CHILLY :-).
We got from the City center a bus, called Terravision, and it only cost to Liverpool airport 5,50 return, so it was quite a deal.
The tour was around one hour there and when we got to the airport the weather got better.
Hale Village was beautiful, a small village, with very nice small streets and wonderful houses. Everything was peaceful, and it was not difficult at all to find the Chruch Street, which lead to Lighthouse Rd.
In our way, we have seen the church which had some kind of statue in front of that, which was carved from a tree. It formed a human being, based on his clothes type he lived a couple hundreads year ago. There was a small label on the statue, with a name: Childe of Hale.
We didn't know who he might be, so we only made some pictures and continued our journey towards the lighthouse.
Reaching the lighthouse in about 10 minutes, walk we have realised that the only road lead there was blocked with a sign (Private Road). We got scared a bit, so we asked an old couple was parking there with their cars, if they knew we could go and see the lighthouse from closer. They told us, that as they thought it was a private area and the only way to see the lighthouse was if we were walking along the coast. This would have made us another 3-4 miles walking so as they advised we decided to go on this road, and ask the lighthouse owner to let us look around and make some pictures.
The old man told us about the Childe of Hale, the huge human which was living in Hale 500 hundread years ago, and we have seen his statue. His height was 9ft 3inches!!! In that time the king asked for him, and he became a wrestler of the royal family. He was burried in the church's garden, and we was reminded not to forgot to see his grave.
After a nice chat we opened the small gate and started to walk along the road which lead to the lighthouse. This was only enough wide for a car, and it was edged by hedge from both sides. At the distance we have seen something which we suspected to be a dog, but luckly as we got closer (even made some pictures with zoom, to figure out if that was a dog) we realized that he was inside the garden :-).
As we got close to the house, we looked around and as we were not sure about the policies of this area, I asked the the owner who just came out of his house, if we were allowed to be there. He told me, the road is private, however the area was public so we could stay and make some pictures.
The Lighthouse was very beautiful, however I liked Perch Rock better last week. We made many pictures around, from different angles, and after a while the feeling got to us also, and we began to love this too :-)
After making pictures of the lighthouse we went down to the shore, which was totally mudy, so we were sinking in mud many times, which covered our shoes, and trousers also. But anyway we made it, stepping on slippery rocks we got down to the shore, and we could see the water from a closer look. This was basically the river Mersey, which is falling to the Irish Sea, at Perch Rock, and the Hale Lighthouse was closer to the mainland. The water, however it was a river was salty, because of the closeness of the sea. Interesting experience.
On the way back we stopped at the church and went in to the garden to see the grave of the Childe of Hale. We felt sorry for him, however we have never heard about him.
