Fifth

2008.01.26. 18:26 ZmanUK

Here it goes, a couple days later I am still here, and the story goes on.

Nothing really to mention happened in the last couple days. The job is still ok, still learning a lot, and not doing any constructive work, as I guess nobody wants me to shut down the network, in time when they have 700K BHCA :-)

One day I went to a pub nearby in lunchtime, and asked for a burger, which was Ł2,5. They told me it will be huge, and probably one will be enough for me. I ended up eating two and I was still hungry. (No wonder I am hungarian ha ha ha) If it goes on, seriously I will be 120kg, or 20 stones? :D Not so much time need to turn myself into a fastfood eater overweight english bloke. Only I will need to change my name to Mr. John Smith. / Dear Mr. John Smith, whoever you are, sorry if this offended you /

I have to realise living in the UK again is much easier than I remembered. People UNDERSTAND me, and I UNDERSTAND them everywhere. Therefore I can deal with everything I have to deal. I could sort out and give my application to DVLA, in order to exchange my hungarian driving license to a British one. I could also manage to get myself a System Travelcard for ALL the buses in Greater Manchester, for 28DAYS, only for 56GBP, which is I think a small price to pay considering the service, and the huge area covered with it.

Of course it is not Prague in prices, but to be honest I was amazed how polite the English are. Everywhere. Post office, bank, shops, buses, etc. Nobody pushes me on the bus, nobody step on my foot, and everybody is very helpful wherever I go. This is a huge change which can not remain unnoticed. The customer service here is 9 out of 10.

Erase LONDON from the map, and exchange it with Warszawa -

Speaking of customer service, I had a great story today. I had to go to the bank, to request an address change on my bank account, as it was still my address in London, and wanted to get a new card, as what I had was expired.

I went into the city centre, near Picaddily Gardens, and the huge shopping centre, and found my bank easily which was open on saturday till 12:30.

As I entered I have noticed a huge queue, so I realized this will be a long way to go. I turned my head right towards the cash machines, when I saw a lady wearing bank uniform was talking to a young couple in polish, helping them withdraw cash. Ok, I said, the "bank lady" is polish, big deal.

A couple seconds later, an old man in his sixties came forward and asked the crowd:

- Is everybody polish here?

I replied only: I am not.

- Please come with me Sir, - was the answer.

We went to this guy's table, and I realised next to our tables the conversation was carried on strictly in polish, and there were some huge banners in the branch, advertising new services in polish! I have asked this gentleman what this is all about, and he told me 85% (!!!) of this branch customers are polish, therefore they have decided to give them polish service in their own language. I had nothing else left to ask then:

- And when will be service in hungarian, please?

He was laughing :-))) I felt myself a little bit outsider, just like in Prague, as I was surrounded with polish (absolutely not understandable) voices, and ours was the only english conversation.

Anyway, I could finally deal with all of my stuff there, it was going pretty easy, and didn't even had to wait in the queue, I think first time in my life I had a profit of being hungarian in the UK. :-)

So, bring down all of the english signs, polish people here they come .....
